The
topic for this year national nutrition week is “HAR GHAR POSHAN
VYAVAHAR"
Due
to poor awareness both poor and affluent families are being affected by
malnutrition. As government is trying its best to overcome malnutrition, this
month of september will be focusing on first 1000 days of child‘s life, fight
against anemia and diarrhoea, personal hygiene and poustik aahar.
1000 days:
What is it: First 1000 days of a child’s life i.e. up to 2 years of age are
considered very critical and development.
A
complementary food has to be focused on iron, calcium, folate, zinc, healthy
fats, carbohydrate and protein, vitamins etc.
Anemia:
What is it: Anemia is a condition when there is decrease
of total number of healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood.
Symptoms like pale skin, weak nails, swelling or soreness of tongue, headache, and light
headedness as they tend to lack concentration, fatigue and also there could be
shortness of breath on exertion.
How can it
be prevented? Anemia can be controlled by having balanced
diet with foods like meats, eggs, leafy vegetables, nuts etc.
Diarrhoea:
What is
it: A common condition that involves
unusually frequent and liquid bowel movements.
How can it
be prevented? Diarrhoea can be prevented by improving sanitation,
by having clean drinking water. The food should be stored and cooked under
proper hygienic conditions.
Personal hygiene:
What is it: It is an act of keeping yourself clean and
internally as well as externally. Being unhygienic means inviting for diseases.
How can it
be prevented? Start with small little habits like Brushing
teeth every day, bathing, cleaning hair, nose, ear, keeping nails clean,
washing hands etc. may sound small thing but it does impact our life in big way
Poustik Aahar :
What is it: Having balanced diet on the plate.
Food groups
should not be avoided which includes cereals, pulses, poultry, fruits
and vegetables, nuts and oil seeds as these contain important macro nutrients
and micro nutrients which are very much essential or our body.
These are the five aspects that are being focused
this year so that we can become healthy nation.
